Elephant Glass
Just cuz, I decided to render out my elephant teapot out of glass and a more simple ceramic. No real reason really, other than I wanted to know how to render glass and simple ceramic better. There’s a nifty little vid of it below.

I started modeling and texturing a 3d elephant to help teach myself some of the new tools in the new version of Maya, and then, my brilliant wife said, hey, you should make that into a teapot. So I did!

Just playing around with modeling myself some new glasses. I really need to add some eyeballs everywhere (I always say that). Make sure you click on the images for some fun time zoomage. Also scroll down for some rotational vid action.

For the latest Drawer Geeks. Yep, dinosaurs was the topic. Click it for a bigger version.
Here’s the original sketch.

Well here he is. I tried some new shading stuff and it worked out pretty good I think. Click “more” for a lil’ bit of making of spiff.
I did this for the latest drawergeeks. Hit the “more’ button to see a bunch o’ making of crap.
in t-shirt form, no less. Yeah,
I know. I’m going to stop the threadless submissions soon. My work’s clearly not a good fit. In the meantime, I had to give this guy a shot.
A cover I recently did for an educational math book. Super extra double fun job.

Here’s another character from the book I’m working on. He’s worried but friendly. Just like me. Click on more for the initial sketch and another view.

I did this for the latest DrawerGeeks. Click on the “more” link below the pic to see a whole buncha making of stuff if’n you like.

Here’s a character from a new children’s book I’m illustrating. All the main characters are dogs, so I’m excited. I like dogs. Anyway, here’s one of the characters. Click on “more” for some, well, more. Here’s the initial character design sketch. Iddn’t he cute?

And here’s a test render of the final model.

No, not a twinkie silly. I did this awhile ago, but believe it or not, this illustration was actually produced wall sized and installed in the lobby of a Seattle Ad Agency.

So I had this illustration from an old Drawergeeks, and I was never fully satisfied with the way it was lit, or its materials. Well I’ve been using custom Mental Ray shaders a lot more recently, so I decided to give it another whack. I’m liking this a lot better. Much more moody/interesting I think. Click it for ze biggie version.
I’ve got some new Taterbots up on Taterbot.com, check ‘em out if you get a chance. Here’s one of the new guys. This is Masher (along with his faux advertising copy).
With an advanced degree in tater pain, Masher brings his obvious wit and delicate sensibilites to bear in all his spud mushing activites. An integral addition to the Taterbots line of toys, Masher will fill your heart with lumpy starch.
So we’re at the Petco getting some doggie chow and lo and behold, there’s a PorkChomps display! I did the character/logo for this a bit ago, and it was super neato to see it finally out in the wild. So we bought a few packs. Our doggies loved ‘em. Probably because of the logo.

Well, I’m launching my new toy design site, taterbot.com. So, in honor of that, here’s a hirkin’ taterbot step by step post! So buckle up and click on “more”.

By popular demand, here’s my grunting pig toy design all nice and smoothed out. Smoothed or cubed, he still wants to be your scowling friend.
So, I’m putting together a website where I can pitch some of my vinyl toy design ideas based on my 3d illustrations. Yeah, it’s weird, but what the hey. Anyway, this is just a test to see if I can embed video. Hopefully it works ok. In fact, please let me know if it does or doesn’t.
This is a design based on my grrr-ing piggy. This is the Grunting Cubic Pig. Wouldn’t you like him sitting on your car’s dash board, or on your knick knack shelf? Propping a cheeto up on your desk? Sitting on your shoulder during the big presentation?
This week’s drawergeeks was Indiana Jones. Since I’ve been sketching so many robots lately, I figured, why not? Click on “more” for a bunch of step by step stuff.

This is an oldie, but I still kinda like it. Actually done in Softimage! Yeah, you heard me.
