I drew this today and I don’t know what it is.

Haven’t posted in a bit. The flu has hit our household. In fact, I feel quite like Tarzan here. I should have a 3d illustration of him up in a few days.

I’m currently working on some art for a bumper thingy for a cartoon on NBC and the script changed, so my drawing of the Apostle Paul won’t be getting used.  I liked the way he turned out though, so I’m dropping him off here. I’ll pick him up later after the show.

Why is this fellow looking so nervous? He knows I’ll be on the radio as guest D.J. on the fabulous Josh and Brett Folk Hour music show. Yep, this tuesday, Oct. 23rd. I’ll be on from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. eastern standard time (that’s 3:00 for you west coasters, 5:00 for you central folks, and I don’t know for the rest of you).  I’ll be playing some of my favorite folkish tunes, and my daughter may even come along and help. Here I hopefully am. My first few attempts ended up looking like the guitarist from Genesis.  Other than both having beards, Mike Rutherford and I really don’t look much like each other.

A few more robots culled from the pile on my desk.  On a semi-related note, I am trying some different markers. I’ve always been a Sharpie-boy, but I’m trying some new “Foray” brand permanent markers with “Super Comfort Grip”.  Mainly cuz they’re cheaper. So far, so not too bad. They bleed a little more than Sharpies, but don’t smell half as noxious. Not that I mind the sharpie fumes, I’ve grown to love them. It’s just that everyone at church knows I’ve started sketching in the middle of the service the minute I pop the top on my doodle stick. The Foray markers on the other hand are much more subtle. They smell like a mild hospital disinfectant mixed with easter egg dye. And heck, that smell could be coming from anywhere. On the other hand a Sharpie, well, nothing smells quite like a Sharpie.

I’ve been on a robot kick lately too. Here’s a few, with more to come.

I’ve been drawing a boat load of rabbits lately, for many reasons, including doing a drawing session with some grade and middle schoolers, as well as working on a freelance webisode project starring a bunny. Anyway, here’s one, with many more to come.

Recently, after showing my wife one of my strange little drawings (not this one), she said “Don’t you ever want to draw something beautiful?” 

Assuming they’re not all vegetarians, and assuming they can’t really cook much under water, then I think mermaids, just like the rest of us, probably just snack on whatever floats by.

Just a sharpie doodle from a meeting a few days ago.

So, I’ve got this great freelance job designing some minor characters for an animated tv show that I can’t tell you about. Anyway, I’ve been having a lot of fun drawing these characters, not only because drawing this way is my favorite way to doodle, but also because as I’ve been sitting down at the dining room table, my 4 year old daughter has been sitting and drawing right along with me, drawing the same things I’m drawing. Sharpies in hand, we scribble away, comparing our characters, giving suggestions, etc. You know, it doesn’t get any better than that.

 I thought it would be fun to show you a couple of our drawings together.  I’m not gonna say whose is whose.
